The Purpose

On this day, we reaffirm that adequate shelter is a basic human right, and we focus on the housing conditions of cities and towns around the world.  We also use this day to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.

On October 5, 2009 please join us in support of World Habitat Day, as we raise our voices and declare that the lack of decent, affordable housing is unacceptable.

  • Support our efforts to eliminate poverty housing here in the Miami County by supporting our efforts.  Donate here.  Volunteer here.

Special Invitation to Join Us

Habitat for Humanity to Welcome Vista Volunteer!

Habitat for Humanity of Miami County will welcome VISTA volunteer, William Bolsen III, to the community of Troy and our Habitat affiliate in September. For the past year, Bill has been a VISTA volunteer with the Denver HFH. His home is in Evanston, Illinois. He will be with his family for a period and then attend a VISTA training orientation in Americus. GA. Bill will then relocate to Troy and assist us with ReStore Development.
In partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates, AmeriCorps VISTA members develop systems, programs and procedures to enhance affiliate capacity-building efforts. Members focus on sustainability, clear project goals and accountability to alleviate poverty, generate resources and encourage volunteer service.
Bill will work closely with our ReStore Advisory Board and ReStore Manager, Sharon McGill, to meet the goals and objectives of its ReStore Business Plan.

About Us

Habitat for Humanity of Miami County, Ohio is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
